Are you looking for the ultimate cycling challenge?

The RACE (Race across Europe) is a once-in-a-lifetime ultracycling event featuring the very best of riding in Europe. We finish looking at Africa, our start by the North Sea now far behind, having climbed the Alps twice, braved the Black Forest, crossed into Slovenia, scaled the Vrsic Pass, sped across flat northern Italy, conquered Mont Ventoux, soaked up the South of France’s sunshine, crossed the Pyrenees and relished Spain’s fantastic roads to finish at the most southerly point of mainland Europe. This event requires exceptional teamwork, stamina, energy, strategy and humour to succeed. Don’t let ‘race’ put you off though. If you cycle in a team this challenge is achievable by most people. Those who finish can proudly say that they competed in, and completed, the hardest cycling event on earth!

The outline

  1. Riders enter solo or in teams of 2, 4, 6 or 8, with their own support teams. These support crews have to be organised by the team concerned.

  2. Cyclists set off from Calais (France) with their support crew following and cycle to Tarifa (Spain) with as few rest stops as possible. This requires cycling through the night. The first riders leave Calais on Sunday 10 June 2012 and the fastest teams will start arriving in Tarifa by Tuesday 26 June.

  3. Along the route riders will pass Greenrock timing stations between every 100 to 150 miles to keep an accurate check on split, overall times, state of the riders and crew and any cheating.

  4. A RACE handbook outlining the rules & regulations will be provided to all entrants and scrutineering of vehicles and bikes will take place in Calais.
